Barnaby Joyce has been criticised for a bizarre rant he posted about God, climate change and how he’s ‘sick of the government being in his life’.

The former deputy prime minister and Nationals MP shared the 47 second clip to Twitter captioned: ‘Merry Christmas’.

‘Well you probably wonder what politicians do on Christmas Eve. Well when it’s drought, feed cattle,’ the 52-year-old said as he showed off his herd.

‘You don’t have to convince me the climate’s not changing. It is changing. My problem has always been whether you believe a new tax is going to change it back.’

The visibly sweaty My Joyce then gets furious, saying he ‘doesn’t want the government in his life’.

‘I’m sick of the government being in my life,’ he said, before pointing the camera to the sky saying there is a ‘higher authority’ that needs to be respected.

‘And the other thing I think we gotta acknowledge is you know there’s a higher authority beyond our comprehension,’ he said.

‘And right up there in the sky, unless we understand that’s gotta be respected. Then we’re just fools, we’re going to get nailed.’

The Christmas video caused a stir on social media as users called out Mr Joyce for his comments.

‘If you want the government out of your life and you think we’re all in God’s hands anyway so what are you gonna do. It might be time to resign,’ one person wrote.

‘Barnaby, the carbon price did reduce Australia’s emissions until you killed it. If you don’t want the government in your life there is an easy solution to that. We are getting nailed, burnt actually,’ another commented.

‘Man who relies on government for salary, healthcare, roads and probably drought relief wants government out of his life,’ someone else wrote.
