Vegan Tash Peterson marches into Coles and Woolworths telling shoppers meat is murder

Tash Peterson made her way into a Woolworths and Coles and disrupted shoppers in the meat department

A blood-soaked vegan who has ‘felt the fear’ of slaughtered animals marched into Coles and Woolworths on Christmas Eve with a stereo blasting cow and pig noises – calling on the supermarkets to reveal where their meat ‘really comes from’.

Tash Peterson, dressed in a bloodied apron with a fake butchered chicken under her arm and wearing a face mask, made her protest at the Western Australia stores on Tuesday.

The back of her shirt read: ‘Your ”food” fought for their life. That should leave a bad taste in your mouth.’

The 25-year-old held a sign which demanded: ‘Coles/Woolworths Tell them the truth.’

Ms Peterson made her way to the butcher section of the supermarkets and stood silently as a stereo blasted cow and pig noises, much to the displeasure of customers shopping for their Christmas meats.

The vegan activist went to stand in front of the ham section at Coles, removed her face mask and began yelling at shoppers.

‘Do you know where your Christmas chicken and turkeys come from?’, she asked.

‘An eight-week-old baby that was shackled from their feet and electrocuted in a bath of water and had their throats slit. They were just babies.

‘Do you know where your Christmas beef comes from? An 18-month-old cow.’

Shoppers walked past Ms Peterson while some grabbed their baskets and trolleys to get away from her.

Someone could also be heard telling her to ‘shut up’, while others asked her and the photographer to ‘stop, it’s disgusting’.

Ms Peterson continued to launch her protest, saying she knows the torture the animals experience and ‘felt the fear’ they went through in slaughterhouses.

‘I’ve been to slaughterhouses, I’ve seen their tears, I’ve felt their fear and I’ve seen and heard their screaming for their lives,’ she yelled.

In Woolworths, Ms Peterson once again stood in the meat department in hope of deterring shoppers from purchasing meat products.

A manager approached her and had a few words, before she left the supermarket.

She was then seen walking around the shopping centre with the sign.

The footage was posted online and divided social media users, with some commending Ms Peterson for her actions.

‘This is perfect Tash. Let the animals speak for themselves,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘Thank you for letting their voices be heard.’

‘Girl of Steel with a big heart. It takes a lot of courage to do this – thank you for doing this for the animals,’ a third commented.

But others weren’t so kind.

‘Imagine being annoying like this,’ one person wrote.

‘You’re just ruining someone’s day,’ another said.

Ms Peterson says she became vegan after watching the documentary Food Choices, two years ago.

‘I became a vegan and vegan activist overnight. It was quite a sudden change,’ she previously told The West Australian.

‘I felt like a light bulb had just switched in my head and I wanted everyone to be made aware of this issue.

‘The next day I went out, bought all my new vegan food and started posting a lot of things on social media.’

Ms Peterson is a member of Direct Action Everywhere Perth, a group of vegan activists who work to liberate ‘non-human animals’.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Woolworths and Coles for comment.
