Heidi Broussard’s suspected kidnapper asked ex not to be ‘mad’

The woman suspected of being involved in the murder of her friend Heidi Broussard in an elaborate plot to steal her newborn allegedly told her ex-boyfriend not to be mad when she returned home with a baby after faking her pregnancy.

Broussard was found strangled to death in the trunk of a car outside a home in Houston, Texas on December 20 after she disappeared with her newborn baby Margot Carey a week earlier.

The baby was found unharmed inside the home where Broussard’s close friend Magen Fieramusca, also known as Maygen Humphrey, was living at the time with her ex-boyfriend.

Fieramusca has since been charged with kidnapping and evidence tampering in relation to her friend’s death after police say she faked being pregnant in an elaborate plot to steal Broussard’s baby.

No one has been charged yet with Broussard’s killing and authorities say they are still investigating.

Court documents, obtained by KVUE, released on Monday have provided somewhat of a timeline in relation to Broussard’s death and indicate why police have come to suspect her friend Fieramusca of being involved.

Authorities believe that Fieramusca faked being pregnant for months in an elaborate plot to kidnap her friend’s baby in a bid to pass her off as her own, according to the affidavit.

Police said Fieramusca displayed suspicious behavior soon after her friend gave birth to Margot in an Austin hospital.

Fieramusca drove from Houston to visit Fieramusca a day after the baby was born, the affidavit said.

The baby’s grandfather told police that he recalled Fieramusca asked if she could hold the baby first instead of him.

A nurse also told investigators that she overheard Fieramusca speaking to Broussard at the hospital about being 37 weeks pregnant.

The affidavit said that Fieramusca and Broussard were excited about being pregnant at the same time and had wondered if they would go into labor around the same time.

While she was visiting, Fieramusca stayed at the home Broussard shared with her fiance Shane Carey and they gave her a key on November 26, according to the affidavit.

She left the following day and told Carey she would leave the key on the counter but he told police that he never found it.

Broussard and her baby were reported missing on December 12.

Authorities started investigating Fieramusca after a woman who lived in the same apartment complex as Broussard reported seeing two women, one who was holding a baby, interacting the day the mother and daughter vanished.

The witness said she saw the woman who was carrying the baby walking towards a car being driven by the other woman before they all drove off together.

Police said that witness – when given a photo lineup – said she was about 70 percent sure that the woman driving the car was Fieramusca.

Authorities then conducted a review of Fieramusca’s online searches between November 11 and December 18.

Among the search terms they uncovered were ‘Heidi Broussard’ and ‘bodies in Austin Texas’.

Investigators then began monitoring Fieramusca’s house in Houston and interviewed her ex-boyfriend Christopher Green.

Green told them they had broken up in March but they still lived together.

The ex-boyfriend said he thought she had gotten pregnant around the time they split, he thought he was the father and that he had never seen her bare stomach during the pregnancy.

Fieramusca allegedly told him that she had given birth while she was out of town after going to the beach with a cousin.

When the ex-boyfriend saw Fieramusca at their home on December 13, she allegedly told him: ‘Don’t be mad, don’t be mad’.

She then told him there was a baby on the bed, according to the affidavit.

Police showed her ex-boyfriend a photo of Margot and he responded: ‘That’s the baby at my house’.

Authorities searched Fieramusca’s home on December 19 and noted they could smell the ‘unmistakable odor of decomposing flesh’ coming from the trunk of her car.

They noted the car had been parked in a bid to hide it.

Broussard’s body was found inside the trunk stuffed into a black duffel bag.

Police said Broussard and Fieramusca had known each other for 20 years.

Fieramusca remains in prison on a $600,000 bond and is scheduled to face court on February 3.
