A woman downed a bottle of Prosecco at a primary school barbecue before driving home with two children aged five and ten in the car and wetting herself.

Camille Barker, 36, got drunk at the gathering at St Clare’s Primary School in Glasgow before driving home.

She drove erratically and burst a tyre while trying to park her car.

By the time she got back home, she was so drunk that she could not find the keys to her £370,000 bungalow and had wet herself.

Together with the children, she was forced to wait on the porch until the elder child called a neighbour for help.

The neighbour found Barker’s house keys inside her car and let them into the house.

It was only after getting into the house that the neighbour realised Barker had wet herself and was in no fit state to watch the children so decided to stay with them overnight.

Barker appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court today to be sentenced over the case.

She admitted that she ‘did wilfully expose said children in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health and did drive under the influence of alcohol with both aforesaid children in the vehicle.’

Procurator Fiscal Depute Tanjeel Maleque explained: ‘At around 10pm the accused placed both children in her vehicle, and she has driven home erratically, causing fear and alarm to [the elder].

‘On arriving at her home address, the accused parked outside and struck a plant pot, causing a tyre to burst.

‘The accused was unable to find keys to gain access to her home address and sat within the outside patio area with both children.’

Elaine Rae, defending, said Barker had been struggling after the breakdown of a 17-year-long relationship and had planned to walk home before getting drunk and deciding to drive.

Sheriff Tom McCartney spared her prison, instead placing her on a year-long Community Payback Order, which will see her supervised by social workers.

He also fined her £500 and banned her from driving for 12 months.
