Gangster is charged with shooting dead girlfriend of rapper Momoh

Monique Baugh, 28, was shot three times in an alley in Minneapolis on New Year’s Eve

A ‘vicious’ gangster has been charged with the abduction and murder of a rapper’s girlfriend who was shot three times in an alley on New Year’s Eve.

Cedric Lamont Berry, 41, was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder and kidnapping after Monique Baugh, 28, was found ‘gravely injured’ from gunshot wounds in an alley in Minneapolis on December 31.

Berry, who has previous convictions for drug dealing and possession, was said to have bound her hands before shooting her in the face and torso at close range, Fox News reported.

He was also charged with the attempted murder of the real estate agent’s boyfriend, a Minnesota rapper known as Momoh, earlier in the same day.

Police said Berry had entered Baugh’s home wearing a black mask and shot at Momoh while the musician was with his two daughters, aged one and three, at around 5.30pm on New Year’s Eve.

The rapper, who recently released a song featuring the late Nipsey Hussle, was allegedly shot multiple times before Berry fled the home. Momoh then called police and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Around an hour later, three gun shots were reported four miles away near 1300 block of Russell Avenue North. Officers then arrived and found Baugh ‘gravely injured’ from three gunshot wounds in the alley.

Baugh, who worked as a real estate agent for Kris Lindahl Real Estate, was rushed to North Memorial Medical Center where she later died.

Authorities were said to have found .45-caliber Federal brand discharged cartridge casings at the scene of both attacks.

‘I cannot begin to describe how vicious the behavior was in this case’, County Attorney Mike Freeman said.

‘We have charged Mr. Berry with setting a trap for Ms. Baugh, assassinating her at close range and shooting at her boyfriend while in [a] house with two small children. We are seeking high bail and will do all in our power to prove him guilty’.

Berry had allegedly lured Baugh to a house viewing in Maple Grove before reportedly forcing her into a rented U-Haul truck, MPR News reported.

CCTV footage is said to show the mother-of-two arrive at the home at around 3pm, not long before a U-Haul truck parks near the garage of the property.

Footage is then said to show a person appearing to force another into the back of the van before departing the property. A van with the same licence plate number was seen on CCTV at the scene of both attacks, police said.

Momoh, who released his song featuring the late Nipsey Hussle ‘Westside’ last year, had recently signed a recording contract and police said he had been ‘flaunting cash on social media’.

A clip posted to his Instagram shows dozens of $100 notes inside a tumble dryer. In the caption, he wrote: ‘I can show u how to clean that dirty money’.

Hussle was killed after a shooting near a clothing store he owned in Los Angeles in March.

Berry was arrested at around midnight on January 2. Police found a black mask and 13 bags of suspected heroin inside his car.

His bail was set at $2 million, which police said was due to his ‘extensive criminal history and the danger he poses to public safety’.

Berry had previously been sentenced to five years in jail in 2001 after a passenger in his vehicle shot and killed a rival gang member.

He also has previous convictions for drug dealing, drug possession, aggravated robbery, illegal weapons possession and fleeing police.

Berry is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
