A courier driver has been caught throwing a package from his van window before driving away.

‘Ever wondered why your Courier Post parcels are broken?’ Mr Gardiner wrote on Facebook alongside footage of the incident.

‘Check out this new ”time saving” delivery technique at our house this morning.’

The driver did not get out of his yellow van while delivering the package and instead reversed out of the driveway after hurling the parcel.

Mr Gardiner told the New Zealand Herald his wife was expecting a set of contact lenses when she asked Mr Gardiner if they had arrived.

‘I said: ”I didn’t hear anyone knock at the door”. I had been home all day so decided to look at the camera to see what time it was delivered,’ Mr Gardiner explained.

‘That’s when I came across that footage of the driver hurling it towards our front door.’

Mr Gardiner said the footage ‘hit a chord’ with members of the Greenhithe community and many of them have contacted him about receiving damaged parcels in the past.

‘Luckily it wasn’t fragile but could have been a delicate item… We were lucky,’ he said.

A NZ Post spokeswoman said they were apologetic about the incident.

‘NZ Post wishes to sincerely apologise for this instance of a mishandled delivery,’ she said in statement to Daily Mail Australia.

‘This doesn’t meet the high service standards that we pride ourselves on.

‘We will be speaking with this driver and are working to support our people to continue to meet service standards.’
