An elderly father and his devoted son have captured the hearts of thousands after a photo of them talking through a window of an assisted living facility went viral. 

Sandy Hamilton, an employee at Whispering Pines Assisted Living in Minnesota, witnessed the moment and took to Facebook on Sunday to share the poignant image, which has since been shared more than 789,00 times.   

‘My assisted living is on lockdown so he comes every day to see his dad and they talk through the phone, sweetest thing ever,’ she wrote.

In the picture, the father is sitting in a recliner, talking on the phone with his son, who is relaxing in a folding chair outside of his window. 

Most nursing homes and care centers across the country have restricted visitation and gone on lockdown to protect those who are most vulnerable to the coronavirus (COVID-19). 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, older adults ages 60 and up and people with severe chronic illnesses are more likely to become severely ill from the virus.  

With more and more people looking for creative ways to stay in touch with their loved ones, particularly their elderly relatives, Hamilton found the moment between the father and son incredibly touching.  

She posted the image of the two men making the best out of a bad situation with their consent, and it quickly went viral.

More than 18,000 people have commented on the picture, with many commending the son for making such an effort to see his father. 

‘That’s what love looks like!’ one person wrote. 

‘This is an example of the part of humanity that should be celebrated,’ another added. 

‘Omg what a lovely thing to see,’ someone else commented. ‘So nice to see a son who cares so much.’ 

As of Tuesday, there have been 5,244 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the US and 94 deaths.

To slow down the spread, President Donald Trump released a series of coronavirus guidelines that calls for a lockdown of America, including the closing of restaurants and schools.
