  • Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?

Hair salons worldwide are shutting down in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus, leading to a flurry of last-minute bookings and panic-buying of hair dye.

Now those who are separated from their regular stylist are taking matters into their own hands by cutting themselves ‘pandemic fringes’ to update their look while in lock-down.

It started in the US this week and Brits have now jumped on the idea, with fans taking to social media to share the results.

A woman from Wales admitted: ‘Just told my hair lady that I’ve cut myself a fringe and she told me if the coronavirus don’t kill me she will…..happy Monday.’

A staff member at the University of Bristol Theatre Collection also confessed on Twitter that during day five of her self isolation, she cut a fringe into her hair.

Millions of people are having to stay at home to help prevent the spread of coronavirus – and to combat their boredom, some women have given themselves ‘pandemic fringes’. A London-based writer shared a black and white photo of her new look (pictured)

‘Yesterday I chopped my fringe. Today (day six of working from home and self isolation) I actually put make up on and normal clothes,’ she said.

Yet while many people are rushing to join the pandemic fringe trend, LA-based hairstylist Justine Marjan, who has worked with the likes of Ashley Graham and the Kardashians, said people should avoid it.

Taking to Instagram, she shared a video which showed her about to cut her fringe with a pair of scissors before thinking better of it.

She captioned the short clip:’I don’t know who needs to hear this, but this is not the time to cut your bangs at home.

‘The twist method doesn’t pull up the hair with even tension or distribution from both sides, so you will likely end up with crooked bangs.

‘It’s also risky to trim your bangs yourself as the hair usually jumps up quite a bit as you pull it, especially when it’s wet. I recommend waiting to see a professional to avoid a hair mishap.’
