A creative mother has set up her own Easter Show at home for her kids – complete with a ticket booth, showbags, coupons and mini games with prizes.

Marcella Lyons, from Sydney, created the fun-filled event in the living room for her two young daughters, aged three and six, after the 2020 Royal Easter Show was cancelled in a drastic step to stop coronavirus spreading following the Australian government’s ban on non-essential gatherings.

Her DIY event featured a miniature ticket booth with a cash register, carnival games including balloon popping and ball tossing and a showbags stall with the themed toys such as the Little Mermaid, Harry Potter and Marvel and Total Girl magazines.

‘We were planning to go to Easter Show this year with our family but it was cancelled so we decided to create one at home,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I just put everything together in one day using things I found around the house like cardboard and wrapping papers and I printed out the tickets I found online.

‘We set everything up in the living room, and I put together all the party games. The kids loved it.’

The mother said the game prizes she used were just leftover items from previous children’s parties, while the showbags were purchased online.

‘I bought the real showbags online which were expensive but everything else cost me less than $10 to put together at home,’ she said.

She said her daughters – who are currently being home schooled – hasn’t been outside for the past three and a half weeks due to COVID-19.

‘Isolation has been hard on the kids,’ Ms Lyons said.

‘So we just wanted to make something fun and memorable for them during this horrible situation. So when we look back, we won’t see it as a bad thing because we had so much fun at home… that’s what I’m going for.’

After sharing the pictures on Facebook, the mother-of-two was met with many parents praising her for the ‘brilliant’ idea.

‘OMG that’s awesome… That’s such a great idea,’ one woman said.

Another woman said: ‘You are killing it! So good! Are the tickets still available? I’m coming for the show bags.’

Other parents revealed they were inspired to create their own Easter Show, while others said she did a great job keeping her daughters entertained at home.

Last month, the organisers of the 2020 Sydney Royal Easter Show, announced it had cancelled its event after Prime Minister Scott Morrison banned mass gatherings of more than 500 people.

‘It is distressing and disappointing to cancel the Show for 2020,’ the event’s organisers said in a statement.

‘There are many people who will be very upset by this decision, and this is the first time the Sydney Royal Easter Show has been cancelled because of a public health emergency since the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1919.

‘The safety and well-being of our patrons and visitors is paramount and out of precaution.

‘We appreciate that the cancellation of the Show is a huge disappointment for our Show community, particularly exhibitors and visitors from rural and regional NSW who love attending the Show to catch up with friends and celebrate with us every year.’
