Fight in Barcelona bar as customers stop people entering

A fight broke out in a Barcelona bar as customers inside refused to open the shutters to allow entry to people seeking refuge from the terror attack.

The scuffle began among six customers who had barricaded themselves inside bar La Cabaña on Calle dels Àngels, 900 feet from Las Ramblas, where a van killed 13 people.

At around 6.20pm, a group of people began banging on the steel shutters to ask to be let inside.

While two customers wanted to let the group in, two did not, leading to shouts and pushes, El Pais reports.

After a few seconds, one person raised the shutter just high enough for three people to get in.

When they got in, the two people who had opposed their entry shouted, ‘You have put us in danger!’

However, the situation calmed down after the customers realised the street outside, was calm.

The incident was one of many chaotic scenes that took place in the Spanish city following the van attack on the tourist hotspot.

The driver of the vehicle, who also injured 100, is thought to be still at large, despite police making two arrests.

Disturbing video footage shows dead bodies strewn on the tourist boulevard, and paramedics tending to the injured.

Witnesses reported seeing people running away and screaming after the terror attack happened.

One man, Isaac, saw the incident unfold. He said: ‘The person was accelerating. He mounted the pavement to run people over.

‘We saw the van passing by running people over at 50 miles an hour. It was as if it was driving through a field of corn.’

A taxi driver told Catalan TV station TV3: ‘The van was doing zigzags knocking over everyone he could. It was shocking.’

Three Germans were among those killed, Spanish media reported. There were also Greek and Belgian nationals among the dead.

It remains unclear how many attackers were involved in the massacre, which is being treated by police as an act of terrorism.

Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders has confirmed that one of the victims was from Belgium.
