Mother opens Coles baked beans to find just NINE inside

A Melbourne mum has been left in the lurch after finding her can of Coles baked beans contained just nine protein-full bites.

Lauren Thomson was preparing breakfast for her four-year-old son when she made the discovery, posting a hilarious response to the grocery store’s Facebook page.

‘Dear Coles, Thanks for the generous serve of NINE lousy beans we got out of this can. This is surely to satisfy a 4 year old with their heart set on beans for his brekky!’ she wrote.

Ms Thomson told Daily Mail Australia that while she was shocked at the can’s contents, she had found the situation quite funny.

‘It was only a 90 cent can of beans so I wasn’t too upset,’ she said.

‘And fortunately I did have another can with a much more acceptable amount of beans in the cupboard, so my son wasn’t left too disappointed in the end!’

Coles were quick to respond to Ms Thompson’s query, providing a pun-filled message despite spelling her name wrong.

‘Hi Laura, thanks for getting in contact with us. We’re sorry to see you’ve bean disappointed with your breakfast this morning,’ the company wrote.

Ms Thomson said she was happy with how Coles handled the situation and their offer for a full refund at her local store.

While Ms Thomson could not remember which store she had purchased the beans from, she said the can’s use by date wasn’t until 2019.

Her social media post attracted a number of responses online, with users seemingly split over whether it was more funny or ‘terrible’.

‘Hope he ate them slowly!! That seriously is shocking,’ one person wrote.

While another added: ‘To be fair you now don’t have to buy tomato sauce’

Coles said they were following up the incident with their National Quality Team.
