His first unexplained case involved Wing Commander Alan Turner MBE, who was duty military supervisor at RAF Sopley, Hampshire in 1971.

He describes seeing objects climbing at supersonic speeds from 3,000ft to 60,000ft — beyond the capabilities of any aircraft at the time.

Mr Turner said: ‘I am at a loss to explain what I, and many other people, saw.

‘To climb to such a height in only forty miles was beyond the ability of any fighter aircraft at the time

‘In those days aircraft could not climb at such a rate. To be seen on displays by three different ground radars, plus the airborne radar in the Canberra, is also a mystery.’

On the other side of the world in Melbourne, Australia, Roy and Ralph Keane claimed to have captured photographs of a UFO.

Father and son Roy and Ralph Keane were out in their back garden in Kilsyth when they spotted the crafts, in 1995.

Mr Keane said: ‘Each time the object was photographed, it appeared to be moving on a trajectory to our right as we looked up at it.

‘Almost immediately after each picture was taken, the flying object seemed to momentarily ‘hover’, then ‘dip’ and move to the left very suddenly.’

‘Each time this occurred, both my son and I rushed around the side of our house in an attempt to see where the object had moved to.

‘Each time, on arrival at the front of our house, there was no sign of the object anywhere to be seen in the sky!’

The pictures were analysed by photographic expert Winston Keech whose report said concluded that the images were not a hoax.

Mr Mantle added that one of the longest reported sightings of a UFO was witnessed by Josephine Howard, from Darwen, Lancashire in 1985

He said: ‘Mrs Howard was walking to her car outside her home in Darwen Lancashire.

‘She just happened to look up and observed two round red lights in the sky. The lights were about the size of car headlights.

‘There were no ‘beams’ coming from the lights and as they came overhead there was no noise.

‘Mrs Howard described the scene at the time saying “the object was huge and its underneath had what looked like round-headed studs. It moved overhead and I kept watching it until it was almost out of sight at which point it seemed to tilt upwards and shoot off at a great speed and was gone.”‘

Mr Mantle added that the witness estimated the UFO was in view for around eight minutes.

Mystery of the bizarre marks left on Hungarian woman’s stomach after she was visited by a ‘being’ in the night

The strangest case the UFO expert said he has encountered was when doctors were unable to explain injuries suffered by a Hungarian woman in 1991.

Mr Mantle claimed the woman was at home with her husband, when a dull black egg-shaped object shot across the kitchen.

The woman said the object made a ‘rippling’ movement and a ‘snorting’ sound as it flew.

A ‘wonderful looking woman’ suddenly appeared, staring directly at the witness, who beckoned her into another room.

She woman complied and followed the mysterious entity, only for the being to disappear when she entered the other room.

A number of days later the woman awoke in bed to the sound of the being’s voice, which asked her to raise her arm and she suddenly felt an intense pain in her elbow.

She next found herself stood alone in a ‘cabin-like object’ in her garden.

The woman passed out and awoke in bed with an intense pain in her abdomen and strange markings on her stomach.

Mr Mantle said his number unexplained case took place in Normanton, West Yorkshire, when a the occupents of a UFO appeared before a family.

He said: ‘It has stayed with me ever since.

‘I received a call from a lady by the name of Mrs Westerman who recounted a close encounter witnessed by herself and her six children.

‘Mrs Westerman said it was around mid-afternoon when her eight-year-old daughter suddenly ran into the house shouting and crying and telling her mother to “come quick, an airplane has just landed in the field”.

‘Mrs Westerman ran outside and a few hundred yards away, in the fields adjacent to her house, she saw an object on the ground. It was a dull grey colour and had the appearance of a ‘Mexican hat’.

‘Around the object stood three very tall men all of whom appeared to be dressed in silver suits.

‘These men seemed to be pointing to a dark instrument on the ground. The children and Mrs Westerman made their way over the field towards this object and stopped at a fence.

‘The men walked to the rear of the object and it rose vertically, stopped in mid-air, and then shot off at an angle at a high rate of speed.’
