Family recalls how Twinlakes ride threw them to the ground

A family has described the heart-stopping moment a theme park ride they were on flung them several feet to the ground before covering them in oil.

David and Marilyn Tuckwell, their son Alex and four grandchildren were nearing the end of an enjoyable day at Twinlakes theme park in Leicestershire, when the incident happened.

Mrs Tuckwell and three of her grandchildren were on the ride, which catapults people into the air as they are seated before bringing them back down to the ground, when they heard a loud bang.

The still-seated riders then fell several feet to the ground, said Mr Tuckwell, who had been watching his family enjoy the ride and witnessed the incident.

They were then covered in hydraulic fluid which started gushing from the ride at the Melton attraction.

‘They had already had two or three goes on it when suddenly, out of nowhere, there was an almighty bang and it dropped them to the ground before some sort of liquid started gushing down on to them,’ said Mr Tuckwell, from Countes-thorpe.

‘I shouted for them to get out as quickly as possible. I had no idea what the liquid was and I was worried it could burn them.

‘One little girl on the opposite side to my family, who was also on the ride, was screaming in terror. It was horrendous.’

Mrs Tuckwell said: ‘It all happened in a few seconds, one minute we were up in the air, and the next a huge bang and we were down on the ground with fluid all over us.

‘It was very alarming and I was covered from head to toe in liquid and felt a burning sensation.

‘It petrified some children on the ride and now my grandchildren say they don’t want to go on another one.’

MailOnline has contacted Twinlakes for comment.
