Moment woman falls through a hole in the floor in China

This is the shocking moment a woman disappears into the ground at a metro stop after stepping on a broken escalator floor panel.

The broken metal panel – dubbed a ‘death trap’ by Chinese media – had not been secured in place, causing the floor to ‘swallow’ the woman as she stepped onto it.

Security footage shows the woman and a man – presumed to be her boyfriend or husband – heading towards exit C at Cuizhu metro station in Shenzhen City in China’s southern Guangdong Province.

Just before the pair reach the ascending escalator, the woman steps onto the floor panel which gives way, swallowing her into the ground.

The panicking man turns and desperately tries to grab the woman, in the end holding onto her arms as other witnesses rushed over to help.

According to staff at the station on Line 3 of the Shenzhen Metro, the woman was unharmed when she was helped out several minutes later.

The clip shows other people hoisting the woman back up to safety.

She was taken to a local hospital where doctors confirmed that she had suffered abrasions to her arms and legs.

Her injuries were not serious and she has since been discharged from the hospital, reports said.

A Shenzhen Metro statement said that they had repaired the faulty floor panel.

They offered an apology to the victim and thanked the others who leapt to her aid.

Officials are now continuing to investigate the incident but have yet to announce whether compensation will be offered to the woman over the traumatic ordeal.
