Girl wanders alone in Hurricane Harvey Texas floodwaters

Shocking footage has emerged of a toddler wandering a flooded street alone in Pearland, Texas, after Hurricane Harvey.

Renz Michael spotted the little girl wading through the floodwaters through his window before taking her back home to her family.

Wearing a T-shirt and a diaper and clutching a bottle, the child appears to be confused about where she is going.

‘Where are you going?’ he asks her.

The little girl tells him she was out walking and that her parents were nearby.

He asks her to show him where she lives and walks with her until her father, astonished that she had been able to slip out without him noticing, opened the door in amazement.

Since the video was posted on Monday it has gone viral, with over 5,000 retweets and over 8,000 likes.

Several people praised the good Samaritan for helping the toddler to safety, with some blaming the child’s parents for not keeping an eye on her.

‘Well done sir!’ commented @shannoneffects1. ‘There is no telling what would have happened to her! Not very responsible parents.’

Hurricane Harvey has dumped over 30 inches of rain throughout parts of southeast Texas since it made landfall Friday evening.

The National Hurricane Center said the center of the storm is expected to drift offshore through Tuesday before going in a ‘slow northeastward motion’, even bringing heavy rains to Louisiana.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards warned Monday that the worst is on its way to his state.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said Monday that 3,052 people have been rescued by police since the storm flooded the city, adding that 1,000 have been rescued in the last eight hours alone, the Associated Press reported.

At the same time, the Coast Guard has been receiving more than 1,000 calls an hour, US Coast Guard Lt Mike Hart said Monday.

‘Today alone, the Coast Guard has rescued over 3,000 people,’ he said. ‘That includes both air rescues and rescues using boats.’
