A first look at new feel-good flick Military Wives promises an emotional rollercoaster as a group of women form a choir while their husbands serve in Afghanistan.
Inspired by the true-life story of Gareth Malone’s choir, the uplifting trailer hints at a story of friendship, love and support of women left behind at a military base while their husbands are at war – and is set to hit the big screen in March.
A clip, shared exclusively with Femail, shows Oscar Nominee Kristin Scott Thomas (Darkest Hour) and BAFTA Nominee Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) as they attempt to get the wives and girlfriends of those deployed on military service engaged in singing.
Together they form the very first military wives choir, helping each together through some of life’s most difficult moments as they attempt to carry on without their loved ones.

And it appears they get off to a bumpy start, unable to master the harmonies and struggling to get along with one another.
However the film follows the groups determination as they keep at it, overcoming numerous hurdles in the emotional feel-good flick.
Inspired by a true story, the director of The Full Monty brings their story to life in the heartfelt film, as the group become overcome hardships, loss and make friends all the while becoming a media sensation and global phenomenon.
It also stars Greg Wise (A Private War) and Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels).

Rounding out the cast and playing the military wives are Emma Lowndes (Downton Abbey), Gaby French (Victoria), Lara Rossi (Robin Hood), Amy James-Kelly (Safe) and India Ria Amarteifio (Line of Duty).
In 2011, choirmaster Gareth Malone took a group of military wives under his wing, when he was working on the hit BBC show The Choir.
The aim of the choir was to help the wives and girlfriends of those deployed on military service to express their feelings with song.
Together they form the very first military wives choir, helping each together through some of life’s most difficult moments

And as the series progressed, the choir ended up performing a tear-jerking performance in front of the Queen at the Royal Albert Hall.
Following the series, the song Wherever You Are was released as a single in December 2011, selling 556,000 copies within a week and rocketing it to Christmas number one.
Money from the charity single was donated to the Royal British Legion and the SSAFA Forces Help charities.
The success of the television series and the Christmas single led the five established choirs being approached to contribute to an album.
