Man arrested on terror offences

A man has been charged with a terror offence after being arrested outside Buckingham Palace with a 4ft sword.

Mohiussunnath Choudhury, 26, from Luton, has been charged after a man reportedly drove at unarmed police officers parked near the Mall roundabout in front of the palace last week. 

The suspect – who allegedly shouted ‘Allah Akbar’ – was wrestled to the ground by officers after they sprayed him with CS gas.

Two officers were taken by ambulance to hospital with minor cuts and were later discharged whilst a third PC did not need hospital treatment.

Choudhury, of Luton, Bedfordshire, will appear before judges at Westminster Magistrates court later today.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ‘Detectives from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command have charged a man in connection with an incident on Constitution Hill on Friday, 25 August.

‘Mohiussunnath Choudhury, 26 of Luton was charged on Thursday, 31 August with an offence contrary to section 5(1) of the Terrorism Act 2006 namely, on or before 25 August 2017 engaging in conduct in preparation for giving effect to his intention to commit an act or acts of terrorism.

‘He will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today.’
