Mohamed Salah has become embroiled in a fresh row with the Egyptian FA after they failed to vote in FIFA’s Best awards.

The Liverpool star, who finished fourth in the men’s Best Player award, raised alarms of a possible withdrawal from Egypt’s team after removing all references on his social media accounts.

A major investigation is now underway in Egypt after captain Ahmed Elmohamady and Olympic team coach Shawky Ghareeb revealed they voted for Salah, but they were not registered towards the count.

Furthermore, the only vote that had been registered was from Egyptian journalist Hany Danial, who voted Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Salah.

There are growing fears back in Salah’s native Egypt that the Liverpool forward will sever ties with the national team amid this latest controversy.

Salah appeared to reassure fans that would not happen with a post on social media.

The 27-year-old tweeted: ‘No matter how they try to change my love for you and your people they will not.’

Aston Villa player Elmohamady confirmed that he had voted for Salah, when he said: ‘When it is said I did not vote it is not correct.

‘I gave my voice to Mohamed Salah, then Ronaldo and Sadio Mane.’

Olympic coach Ghareeb claimed he had also voted, but that it was not sent.

He has now called for an enquiry, which the Egyptian Football Federation has said it will launch, in an effort to smooth over the row.

This is not the first time there has been tension between Salah and the Egyptian FA.

Salah won a commercial dispute against the Egyptian FA back in April after expressing unhappiness at his image featuring prominently on the outside of the national team’s plane.

Salah and the EFA were also involved in a furious stand-off last month after they rejected his pleas for more protection from fans while with the national team.
