Look out Malcolm Turnbull – Karl Stefanovic is coming for your job.
The popular Today Show host has penned his plans for Australia should he be elected Prime Minister.
Stefanovic has identified natural power, higher GST and a tourist tax to save the Great Barrier Reefs as the pillars upon which his hypothetical campaign would run on.
‘I love being an Australian. I love this country. My dad was born in Germany. My grandfathers were born in Serbia and Great Britain.
‘They both came here by boat…They would both be angry about the leadership of our country. And so am I,’ he wrote for the Daily Telegraph.

Stefanovic slammed Australia’s electricity crisis, identifying the failure of the Coalition government to recognise climate change and appropriately prepare the country for the future.
‘We’ve got the world’s most abundant natural resources – coal, gas and uranium – yet we’re paying the world’s highest electricity prices. It just doesn’t add up,’ he said.
He blamed a lack of bipartisanship between the Liberal and Labor parties, and wants to see power companies hit with a 5 per cent income tax if they don’t comply with lowering rates.

The Today Show host saved his strongest objection to the government’s mishandling of the Great Barrier Reef, which may lead to its irreversible destruction.
‘My British granddad was a Torres Strait Island pilot who guided huge container ships through the Great Barrier Reef and into the north Queensland ports,’ Stefanovic wrote.
‘His job was all about protecting the exquisite reef, and that’s exactly what we should be doing today.’
He wants a $50 tourist tax implemented for everyone visiting Australia from around the world, and demands all of the money going to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
‘Can we stop pretending the climate isn’t changing?’

Stefanovic wants the GST raised to 15 per cent to help the smaller states, saying its original intention has failed and the money is not properly distributed.
He wants to see taxes reduced on the whole, but not until Australia is out of deficit, and an overhaul to the healthcare system.
Having worked alongside strong women’s rights activist Lisa Wilkinson for a decade, Stefanovic says companies should be rewarded for promoting ‘women to higher roles in the company.’
‘I don’t believe for a second any business would hire a woman just for a tax break. Instead, it would prompt businesses to look for the right women to fill the right roles in a merit-based system that still effectively breaks down barriers,’ he said.
It is unclear whether Stefanovic is serious or not, but if the case study of the United States is anything to go by (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jessie Ventura, Donald Trump, etc) then Prime Minister Turnbull should take this as a threat.
