Two Melbourne dads hit by car at Father’s Day party

Two dads are fighting for life after they were hit by a car and thrown metres into the air outside a Father’s Day party.

Vaea Amituanai, 32, and Antz Pio, 29, were run down as they left the event put on by the Melbourne Samoan community about 12.30am on Sunday.

Their families watched in horror as a car driving down Pearcedale Parade in Broadmeadows hit them at speed outside the community centre.

The pair suffered head injuries and lay on the road in pools of blood before being rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital in critical conditions.

‘We said goodbye to each other and he was just standing on the footpath getting ready to cross the road and we hear a car speeding down,’ a witness told 7 News.

The 20-year-old driver told police he was on his way home from work and didn’t see them. He was ‘helping officers with their inquiries’.

But witnesses said Mr Amituanai and Mr Pio were on the road throwing bottles at passing cars.
