A video of world famous chef Gordon Ramsey preparing crawfish has sparked outrage among Louisianans.
The two-minute Masterchef clip, titled ‘How To Prepare Crawfish’, shows the British chef throwing crawfish in boiling water for just 15 seconds, before removing their shells.
But many Louisianans, who consider the crawfish broil the state’s dish, hit out at Ramsey for not preparing it Louisiana-style.
A video of world famous chef Gordon Ramsey preparing crawfish has sparked outrage among Louisianans
The two-minute Masterchef clip, titled ‘How To Prepare Crawfish’, shows the British chef throwing crawfish in boiling water for just 15 seconds
‘As someone from Louisiana I can say this video is a disgrace to crawfish,’ wrote Trevor Watkins.
‘Please just stop!!! This is so shameful… Ask someone from South Louisiana if you need to know how to cook crawfish!’ another commenter added.
‘Those are gonna be some bland a** crawfish,’ someone else wrote.
‘I’m also a south Louisianan, and it seems that you’re entirely correct,’ another added to the comments above, ‘They seem to be under-seasoned and undercooked…’
However, most of those commenting appeared not to realize that the clip only showed the first stage of preparation of the dish.
After just a few seconds boiling, Ramsey removed the crawfish from their shells and presented them on a rack
But what most of the commenters didn’t realize, was that the world famous chef would go onto use the crawfish in another dish
Later in that episode, Ramsey went on to season the crayfish meat, which were cooked further in a dumpling and broth dish.
Several viewers defended the chef, saying he ‘clearly didn’t want to overcook them’ while others reminded the Lousiania residents there was more than one way to prepare crawfish.
‘Just came here to read the comments about how crawfish are ‘supposed’ to be cooked. Everybody here claims to do it better, but Gordon is the actual pro making the millions,’ wrote one.
‘So many Louisianan’s crying about ‘that’s not how you do it.’ Don’t seem to realize that their way ain’t the only way…’ another commenter added.
