Peter Overton made a little boy’s dream come true on Tuesday. 

The veteran newsreader, 54, invited one of his biggest fans to join him onto the Nine News set. 

A post shared to the official Facebook page of The Ray Hadley Morning Show explained that Peter had a visit with little Mason, one, while documenting the magic moment in a series of adorable photos.

His parents had reached out to radio star Ray Hadley for help in making their dream come true.  

The caption explained:  ‘Mason is one year old and suffers from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, meaning he only has half a heart.

‘His face lights up every night when he sees Peter Overton read the news. So Mason’s parents asked Ray if he could help him meet his favourite person on TV.’

The caption went on:  ‘Without hesitation Peter organised for Mason and his family to come visit the Nine News Sydney studio.

‘Everyday is a blessing to Mason and his family, hopefully today is one they’ll treasure forever.’

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a congenital heart defect, in which the left side of the heart does not form correctly during pregnancy.

HLHS is one of the most severe forms of heart defect, and babies born with the condition need urgent surgery to survive.

Peter has two daughters, Jessica, 13 and 11-year-old Giselle, with his wife of 16 years, former Studio 10 Jessica Rowe.
