Kate Silverton sheds two stone after gruelling home workouts during lockdown

Now it’s Kate Sylpherton! BBC newsreader sheds two stone after gruelling home workouts during lockdown… just in time for her 50th birthday

Many of us slipped into unhealthy habits amid the stresses of lockdown. But Kate Silverton put a spring in her step.

The BBC newsreader took up trampolining to keep herself motivated – and lost two stone just in time for her 50th birthday.

The results were plain to see this month when she took part in The Hit List, the BBC music quiz, showing off a sylph-like physique.

Silverton, who appeared on Strictly two years ago, told the Daily Mail that while juggling her job, homeschooling her two children and writing a book she ‘got to that point when you have no spare reserves’.

She said: ‘I got one of those rebounder trampolines. I was studying how toxic stress sits in the body so the jumping up and down helped.’

A keen cyclist, she also kept up bike rides and did Pilates. ‘I turned 50 and I did mark that by saying I want to look as well as I can,’ she added.

The star, who has Clemency, nine, and Wilbur, six, with husband Mike Heron, has also just completed a 50-lap swimming challenge to raise funds for Children In Need and Girlguiding.

Kate had five years of failed IVF attempts after her and Mike began trying for a baby and had all but resigned herself to never having children when Clemency was conceived naturally two years after they married in 2010.

In March 2019 the newsreader admitted she was apprehensive after her husband was admitted to hospital for heart surgery.

She shared updates on Twitter before and after, admitting she was ‘nervous’ and sharing humorous posts about death as a coping mechanism.

She first tweeted: ‘My husband’s having a heart procedure tomorrow … he’s currently playing me his choice of funeral music – you know “just in case” … that’s how we roll in the Silverton-Heron household.’

Four hours later, Kate returned to social media to assure everyone that things had gone well with Mike’s procedure.

She wrote: ‘He’s just out – thank you ! heading up to see him now thank you to the amazing #nhs @NHSDigital.

‘And I agree – having seen my father so poorly before he passed – it meant so much to be able to have open & healthy conversations about #death #talkaboutdeath & humour too can help!’
