Craig Carton is arrested for $2million ticket scheme

Craig Carton, one half of the popular WFAN radio sports show Boomer and Carton, has been arrested for his alleged role in a $2million ticket business scam.

The 48-year-old was arrested by the FBI at his home in Manhattan on early on Wednesday morning.

Details of his arrest are scarce but NBC New York reports that he is accused of fraudulently obtaining investment for a ticket brokering business which never existed.

He was arrested along with another man whose name has not yet been released. Together, they are accused of ripping investors off of $2million.

On Wednesday, Carton’s ex-quarterback co-host Boomer Esiason awkwardly admitted to listeners that his ‘partner’ had been arrested after first claiming on air that he was ‘under the weather’.

‘Unfortunately he was arrested this morning. The radio station is aware, they’re cooperating with authorities.

‘I’m taken aback and surprised by it just like everyone else. I have nothing else to say.

‘I thought he’d called in sick but this morning but my partner was arrested.’

Esiason, who played for the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals during his 14-year NFL career, was slammed on Twitter after claiming Carton was unwell.

‘”Under the weather” means selling fake tickets in 2017?’ said one outraged listener.

‘You guys gonna mention the elephant in the room?’ asked another before Esiason acknowledged the scandal.

We are aware of the situation and are cooperating with authorities

It is not clear whether Carton actually sold any tickets to sports fans through the alleged scheme.

He and his co-accused are alleged to have ripped off investors $2million.

Carton is a radio personality who launched his career in New York in the early nineties. His rumored salary at WFAN is $250,000 and is estimated to have a net worth of around $2million.

Esiason, by contrast, has a personal wealth of $15million.

A spokesman for CBS Radio which owns WFAN told DailyMail.com on Wednesday: ‘We are aware of the situation and are cooperating with authorities.’

Esiason, 56, went on to say he was 'taken aback' by his 'partner's' arrest. The pair are seen above in June
