Jadon Sancho’s season goes from bad to worse as the goal-shy Borussia Dortmund winger cannot return to the UK for Christmas along with England team-mate Jude Bellingham as Dortmund confirm the pair must stay in Germany for the winter break

Borussia Dortmund duo Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham are not allowed to head back to England over the Christmas break as they would not be able to return to Germany afterwards.
The Bundesliga have one more game before their week-long winter break – a German Cup match against Eintracht Braunschweig on Tuesday – but the England duo’s festive plans have been wrecked by the UK’s current coronavirus case numbers.
The German Government has banned all passenger flights between Germany and England until December 31, while the UK Foreign Office has banned all but essential travel to the country.

With Dortmund’s players set to return to training on December 29 following the holiday season, the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed that both Sancho and Bellingham must stay in Germany for the winter break.
Interim Dortmund manager Edin Terzic, who has taken over on a temporary basis following the sacking of Lucien Favre this month, says both players will be supported along with the rest of the squad.
The current campaign is 17-year-old Bellingham’s first away from England in his career after the midfielder moved to Dortmund from Birmingham City earlier this year for £25million.

The news will also come as a blow to Sancho, who has begun the season poorly compared to previous campaigns.
The 20-year-old winger has started all but two of Dortmund’s Bundesliga games this season but is yet to find the scoresheet, while Sancho has contributed just three league assists since the start of the season.
While Sancho has netted twice in the Champions League so far this term, his figures are a far cry from the 20 goals and 20 assists he registered last season.

The winger was linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this year but the Premier League side missed Dortmund’s August 10 deadline to secure a transfer.
Sancho is valued at around £108million and is a key member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
The 20-year-old is expected to be a part of the Three Lions squad for next summer’s European Championships, while Bellingham received his first England call-up and cap earlier this year.
