Kristen Wiig gets real about challenges of parenting 11-month-old twins during quarantine: ‘They don’t get to see anybody’
Kristen Wiig became a mom earlier this year, when she secretly welcomed twins via surrogate in January.
But the eight-time Emmy nominee hasn’t had the typical motherhood experience in her babies’ first year.
She recently got real about the challenges of parenting her 11-month-old firstborns during quarantine from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as she promoted the long overdue Wonder Woman 1984.

The 47-year-old admitted that it hasn’t been all bad, as she told People: ‘I love that I can be with my family. My babies aren’t even walking yet. I want to be home with them, so that has been a positive for me, of course.’
She revealed that the toughest part is not being able to socialize them: ‘But also they don’t get to see anybody. I have really close friends that haven’t seen my kids in a long time.’
Wiig also said it’s been a struggle to not be around her parents, adding: ‘And my parents, I haven’t seen them in a really long time, so we’ve been FaceTiming with the babies every day. They’re living in such a bubble, and that I can’t have them interact and be social has been a little bit challenging.’
She and fiancé Avi Rothman, 48, welcomed their twins in January, after getting engaged last year, following three years of dating.

The Bridesmaids star recently covered the September issue of InStyle, noting: ‘We’ve sort of been quarantining since January because of the babies. We’re nesting, and we’re tired. Having two nine-month-olds is a lot!
‘But they’re growing, and I can’t wait to see them every morning. It’s not all just lying around and smiling at babies, though. It’s overwhelming to think about everyone else who’s struggling, and it’s hard to be good knowing that.’
She also opened up about their years-long struggle with in vitro fertilization, a process that was both physically and mentally taxing.
Wiig said: ‘We’ve been together for about five years, and three of them were spent in an IVF haze. Emotionally, spiritually, and medically, it was probably the most difficult time in my life. I wasn’t myself.
‘There are so many emotions that go with it — you’re always waiting by the phone and getting test results, and it was just bad news after bad news. Occasionally there would be a good month, but then it was just more bad news. There was a lot of stress and heartache.’
