Jamie Redknapp insists Tottenham can end their 13-year trophy drought by beating either Manchester club in Carabao Cup final as Darren Bent claims Jose Mourinho’s winning menality is ‘seeping into the players’
Jamie Redknapp believes Tottenham can win the Carabao Cup this season and end their 13-year wait for a trophy.
Jose Mourinho’s Spurs booked their place in the League Cup final on April 25 after beating Championship outfit Brentford 2-0 on Tuesday night.
The north London club will face either Manchester United or Manchester City, who meet in the second semi-final on Wednesday night, and former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp has insisted Spurs can go all the way.

Jamie Redknapp believes Tottenham can win competition this season and end trophy drought
‘I think right now, to a certain extent, that we and as fans get brainwashed after getting to the Champions League and getting top four, what it means to the owners and the money that it brings to the club,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘When you look back at your career, you want to win trophies. Of course it’s going to be difficult against two good sides but they proved they can beat Man City with a really good performance.
‘Earlier in the season, I know it’s a different Manchester United team now, but they demolished them. And to a certain extent, the good thing for them now is, they’ve got so much to look forward to – so many league games, they can put this to bed now and it’s really something to look forward to.
‘I think with the team they’ve got right now, and they’re so explosive up front, they can beat anybody.’
Spurs’ trophy drought dates back to February 2008 when they won League Cup at Wembley
Goals from Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min saw Spurs seal their spot at Wembley. The League Cup was the last trophy Tottenham won back in 2008.
Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino came close to delivering success, but Mourinho has a proven track record when it comes to silverware. He has won four League Cups – three with Chelsea, one with United – in his trophy-laden managerial career so far.
Former striker Darren Bent, who played for Spurs between 2007 and 2009 and was part of the side that beat Chelsea in the 2008 League Cup final, claims that the Portuguese’s winning mentality is rubbing off on the current crop of Spurs stars.
‘This is why you bring someone in like a Mourinho,’ he said on Sky Sports. ‘If they go on and win it [Carabao Cup], it will be like validation that they made the right decision in letting Pochettino go and bring in Mourinho.
‘As I said, when he got the job, I always felt they would be a lot closer to winning a trophy because he’s a serial winner, he knows what it takes and that’s now filtering on to the pitch and on to the players because they haven’t won a trophy for a long time now.
‘That mentality is now seeping into the players who are hungry to win one.’
