There was some late breaking news for Lester Holt on Tuesday night.
The NBC Nightly News host learned soon after he finished taping his show that he had become a grandfather for the first time, with his son Stefon and wife Morgan welcoming a son, Henry.
Lester, 55, tweeted about the momentous occasion soon after, writing: ‘The big story happened just after @NBCNightlyNews last night. Meeting our new grandson Henry. Welcome little man!’
He also posted a photo of himself and wife Carol with baby Henry at the hospital on his Twitter account.

Lester’s time with his newest family member was quickly cut short however, as he was forced to rush down to Florida and cover Hurricane Irma on the ground for NBC.
He had just come home from covering Hurricane Harvey in Texas when he met baby Henry.
Lester shared a photo as he flew into the state on Thursday, writing: ‘35,000 ft over Florida coast wondering what Sunday will bring. @NBCNightlyNews live from Miami tonight with full coverage of Hurricane Irma.’
New dad Stefon also shared his excitement by posting a photo of himself and wife Morgan on Instagram.
‘Say hello to the newest member of our family. Henry Holt, born last night in NYC. Baby and Mom are doing great!’ wrote Stefon.
The couple revealed they were having a baby boy back in March, posting photos from their gender reveal party.

Stefon and Morgan met when the two attended Peperdine University in Malibu and have been married for five years.
Lester’s oldest son is the 11pm host at WNBC, the network’s New York affiliate, and works on the very same floor as his father at Rockefeller Center.
His younger son Cameron is a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley.
