Gillian Anderson addresses Alec Baldwin shading her British-American accent: ‘I’m sad that it’s caused him so much distress’

On Sunday, The Crown star Gillian Anderson addressed Alec Baldwin shading her ‘switching’ British-American accent, which lead him to delete his Twitter account last Wednesday.

‘It’s so not a newsworthy item,’ the bidialectal 52-year-old told ET. ‘But I’m sad that it’s caused him so much distress.’

Gillian was technically born in Chicago, but she’s lived in London since 2002 after growing up there from ages 2-11.

‘A couple people texted to say that something was going on,’ Anderson recalled.

‘I didn’t pay any attention to it because it’s just something that I live. I grew up between two countries and so depending on who is in my ear is which direction my accent goes. So I’m so used to it that it’s kind of old news for me.’

The hot-tempered 62-year-old had been attempting to make light of his second wife Hillary ‘Hilaria’ Thomas’ Spanish scandal.

The 37-year-old culture vulture – who just welcomed their sixth child via surrogate – was born and raised in Boston despite her prior claim she was born and raised in Majorca.

Gillian is an awards season frontrunner for her spot-on portrayal of the late UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of the royal Netflix drama.

Anderson received best supporting actress trophies at the 26th Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday as well as the 78th Golden Globe Awards on February 28.

The Sex Education star will next compete for the outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series trophy at the 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards, which air April 4 on TNT/TBS.

Gillian faces heavy competition against her own Crown castmates Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin as well as Ozark duo Julia Garner and Laura Linney.

‘Getting up there in front of that room whether, that room is the Golden Globe room or the SAG room or whatever it is, is unbelievably intimidating,’ Anderson explained.

‘It’s intense! So, you know, to be able to sit in a hotel room and sit on a sofa and be alone and not see the hundreds of people, or maybe thousands of people who may be watching, is kind of a cool gig.’

The entire Crown cast will also compete for the coveted outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series trophy, which is SAG’s equivalent of best picture.
