Candyman Travers Beynon crashes out of GT Trophy at 200km

Travers ‘Candyman’ Beynon crashed out of the Shannons Australian GT Trophy Series on Saturday.

The tobacco tycoon was reportedly driving at around 220km/h when his car took a spin on the Phillip Island racecourse.

While the father-of-four managed to emerge mostly unscathed, it was a different story for his black Audi R8 which ended up with significant damage to its tail end.

Beynon took the lead in the race early on before going on to hold a massive 18-second advantage, according to Speedcafe.com.

But his car spun late in the game as he got caught up among the other cars, forcing him to retire from the race.

The back of the car suffered plenty of damage during the incident, with pieces of metal seen jutting from the vehicle’s body.

Rod Salmon went on to win the race, beating out fellow competitors including Wayne Mack and Matthew Turnbull.

Following the crash, Beynon could be seen resting his left leg as he got into a white van with his crew.

An ice-pack could be seen taped to it, as he relaxed alongside his crew of supporters, who were decked out in bright red and pink outfits throughout the day.

Earlier in the day Beynon was pictured enjoying the outing at Phillip Island, sporting a black and gold racing outfit.

It featured an elaborate stitched gold design with the slogan ‘Candy Shop Mansion’ on the right and the words ‘Travers Beynon Racing’ stitched on the left.

However, the most eye-catching part of his ensemble, which included a matching cap, was his choice of gold shoes.

The shiny metallic boots included a velcro section and co-ordinated with his golden shades.
