PM’s Lib Dem brother-in-law | Daily Mail Online

Theresa May spoke last year about her heartbreaking, unsuccessful struggle to have children.

The Prime Minister is, however, an aunt to three children by her brother-in-law.

I can reveal that David May, the brother of her husband Philip, is a would-be councillor — but for the Liberal Democrats, not the Conservatives.

David, 52, whose eyes and jawline are remarkably similar to those of his 59-year-old brother, has stood several times — without success — to be elected as a Lib Dem councillor in his home town of Royston, Hertfordshire.

His most recent bid was when he stood for a seat on North Herts District Council in 2015.

But he does share one passion with his sister-in-law — for cricket, and is chairman of his local club.

Professionally, David carved out a long and successful career with Tesco, leading the team that developed a series of farm brands to re-name the supermarket giant’s value produce and meat lines. And as the Prime Minister contemplates her future, she could do worse than seek some advice from David, who was recently made redundant, much to the shock of his colleagues.

‘I am looking forward to some time off and will then start to think about what the future holds,’ said David, who will have received a substantial pay-off.

Colleagues say he has referred to the fact he is the Prime Minister’s brother-in-law in occasional asides in meetings. One said: ‘He spoke about how they had been out to dinner with them, and all the security around them.’

David’s wife, Bryony, who, like her husband, is a graduate from Reading University, works for the Met Office, where she’s an expert adviser on severe weather emergencies.

The couple have two girls, one of whom is at university, and a teenage boy. They live modestly in a two-storey semi worth more than £600,000 in a tree-lined street in Royston.

David tells me: ‘I don’t talk to the Press. If you want any comment, you’d need to go through my brother.’

A Downing Street spokesman declined to comment.

Would I Lie To You? Eurythmics star’s 65

Not long ago, men hitting 65 could look forward to a retirement of pipe and slippers, but Dave Stewart has no plans to grow old gracefully.

The Eurythmics star celebrated the milestone with a bash at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London. Showing off his extensive range of tattoos, Stewart struck the pose of a young rapper while clutching a glass containing a model of himself playing a guitar.
