Four people have died including two pedestrians in two separate accidents which happened within four hours in the same county.
In the first crash, a Nissan Pathfinder 4×4 struck several pedestrians who were in a group walking along Harveys Lane, just off the B2192 outside Ringmer, East Sussex, at 8pm on Saturday.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: ‘Tragically two of the pedestrians, a man from Wimbledon, south west London, and a man from Tunbridge Wells, both aged 31, died at the scene.
‘Two women, a 29-year-old from Wimbledon and a 27-year-old from Addlestone, Surrey, were treated for minor injuries at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and were discharged.
‘The other three pedestrians in the group a 29-year-old man from Addlestone, a 24-year-old woman from Morden and a 31-year old woman from Sutton, both in south London, were unhurt.
‘The 37-year-old Uckfield woman driving the car was unhurt.’
In the second incident, a driver and passenger in a Ford Ranger were killed when their car was in collision with a Mini Countryman on the A267, just north of Cross-In-Hand, near Heathfield, just before 11.30pm.
The force spokesman said: ‘The 55-year-old man driving the Ford and the 48-year-old woman who was his passenger, both from Heathfield, died at the scene.
‘The Mini driver, an 18-year-old man from Heathfield, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
‘His passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Newick, was treated at the same hospital for minor injuries.’
In a third incident, an 11-year-old girl pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to St George’s Hospital, London, after she was in collision with a car in Old Shoreham Road, Portslade, at 1.45pm on Sunday.
The spokesman said: ‘The 32-year-old Ditchling woman who was driving the car, a BMW 116 saloon, was unhurt but was treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for shock.
‘Nobody else was reported to have been injured in the incident.’
