Australian woman on why she stopped drinking for good

A woman who cut out all booze and unhealthy food has credited an alcohol-free lifestyle for her glittering career and multi-million dollar business.

Ingrid Arna, 42, says drinking alcohol and eating a generous amount of sugar made her constantly exhausted, bloated, angry, sick and time-poor.

The Brisbane ‘mumtrepreneur’ says her ‘wake-up moment’ happened after she couldn’t even get out of bed after a night out where she drank copious amounts of vodka and wine.

‘I was a party girl, I really misbehaved and did drugs and didn’t look after my body at all,’ Ingrid told Daily Mail Australia.

‘It was killing me, alcohol annihilated me. I was f***ing exhausted all of the time and to the point where I could’t even get out of bed.’

The successful businesswoman, who owns business strategy company High End Empire, said her alcohol consumption made her depressed and constantly tired.

A chronic thyroid diagnosis and an eating disorder also sparked her major lifestyle change, realising she needed to ‘get her health right’.

‘Finally I quit cold turkey and had about three relapses until I drank I bottle of vodka with my dad and husband and was wrecked for three days,’ she added.

Since quitting sugar and alcohol completely eight years ago, the mother-of-one says she feels happier and healthier than ever and was even energised enough to start her own business.

‘I needed to be switched on and do better on an emotional and spiritual level too,’ Ingrid said.

‘I suddenly had this vitality I never had before and so I used all of my background in business and advertising to become an entrepreneur and help others.’

Ingrid says women forget to look after themselves and should look to a nourishing diet for a fresh perspective on life.

‘Far too often women run themselves into the ground trying to have the perfect life, but are just suffocating under it all,’ she says.

‘I live a full, rich life because I learned how to take care of myself. I don’t want to be an “old” 50 or 60-year-old, I want to be happy and healthy.’

Instead reaching for a glass of wine or a piece of cake to reward yourself after a hard day, Ingrid recommends going to a spa, watching a good movie or even having sex

‘And If I didn’t stop living the way I was, my marriage probably would have failed,’ she added.

‘Do things that are nourishing for your soul. I don’t look to food or drink as a reward – I think something as simple as a good night’s sleep or even acupuncture can do a world of good for you.’
