Lyon star Memphis Depay urges French government to allow him to join up with Holland squad after Les Bleus were given green light to forgo quarantine restrictions, insisting ‘that would be fair since you all make an exception for France national team’

  • Didier Deschamps’ France side travel to Kazakhstan then Bosnia later this month
  • Players in France squad are allowed to forgo quarantine restrictions on return
  • However, these rules only apply to France squad and Memphis Depay isn’t happy
  • He urged country’s government to grant waiver for non-French internationals

Memphis Depay expressed his unhappiness that France’s national team have been made exempt from the country’s quarantine restrictions while all other French-based internationals have to adhere to the rules.

France travel to Kazakhstan then Bosnia later this month, and players that have been selected for Didier Deschamps’ squad have been given the green light to forgo quarantine upon their return to the country.

But for Lyon star Depay, and other international stars based in France, they have to stick to the current quarantine restrictions and will have to undergo a mandatory period of self-isolation upon return.

And Depay, formerly of Manchester United, has made his feelings very clear after he was called up to the Holland squad for their upcoming fixtures.

While tagging France president Emmanuel Macron and UEFA into his post, Depay wrote on Twitter on Friday evening: ‘French government can I please join the national team @OnsOranje on Monday.

‘That would be fair since y’all make an exception for the France national team that travels outside of Europe to play games as well!!!’

Depay is desperate to link up with the rest of the Holland squad despite the ongoing restrictions due to Covid.

With the rearranged Euros less than three months away, this upcoming international break is the last chance for Holland and other nations to make late decisions on their squad for the summer tournament.

Holland are gearing up for three World Cup qualifiers, travelling to Turkey next Wednesday before hosting Latvia and finishing off with a trip to Gibraltar on March 30.

If Depay was to link up with his Dutch team-mates, he could be forced to miss some of Lyon’s crucial Ligue 1 run-in.

Lyon are just three points off leaders Lille with nine matches to play.
