Cop left seriously injured after wild pursuit – leaving him with multiple horror body fractures

Cop is fighting for life in hospital after a police chase goes wrong and a trail bike rider mows him down

A police officer is in a serious condition after being hit by a trail bike rider on foot during a pursuit on Wednesday night.

The male cop was left with multiple skull fractures, spine and arm injuries, pelvis and leg fractures following the incident in Maitland, north of Sydney, around 7pm.

The officer, who is based at the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District, was chasing a trail bike rider along the New England Highway when he was struck on foot at a roundabout.

Daily Mail Australia understands the officer attempted to stop the trail bike rider at the scene, who was allegedly speeding away from police.

The constable was rushed to the nearby John Hunter Hospital by air ambulance, where his condition is said to be serious but stable.

The trail bike rider, believed to be aged in his 20s, was apprehended soon afterwards.

He was also taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries and remains under police guard. 

The Crash Investigation Unit are conducting inquiries into the exact circumstances around the incident.
