An Australian bride has become an international hero after she dared to walk down the aisle with a doughnut bouquet instead of flowers.
And Paige Kirk, 23, shocked her three bridesmaids when she told them they would be holding the tasty treats as well just before the ceremony began.
Dessert Boxes owner Samantha Khater, who made the bouquets, told Daily Mail Australia that Paige even went to the trouble of getting fake floral bouquets made.
The bridal party was taking pictures, holding bouquets full of roses in their hands, when Paige suddenly announced she had a big surprise.

‘We’re not walking down with these,’ she said, holding up her floral bouquet in a video filmed by Dessert Boxes. ‘We’re walking down with doughnuts!’
The bridesmaids all burst into laughter when they saw the sweet bouquets, with one even asking: ‘Can we eat them? I want to eat it!’
‘Nom nom nom!,’ another yelled excitedly.
Samantha said the entire bridal party was provided with a box of doughnuts before the ceremony so that they wouldn’t be tempted to take a bite out of their bouquets.
Paige’s idea to surprise her bridesmaids actually helped her stand out in a competition to win the sweet bouquets in the first place.
‘We thought it’d be fun to find a bride who would walk down the the aisle with a doughnut bouquet, something different and light-hearted for a wedding,’ Samantha said.

‘We got over 300 applications from brides, but as soon as we spoke to Paige we knew straightaway she was the bride to do it.’
‘She was so fun and light-hearted and she wanted to keep it a surprise for her bridesmaids, which we thought was funny and knew would be awesome to see.’
Paige left the design of her doughnut bouquets completely up to Dessert Boxes, only asking that the bridesmaids’ bouquets be a bit different from her own.

‘We kept it in an all-white theme for the bride to be a bit subtle and tie it to the wedding,’ Samantha said.

‘And for the bridesmaids we also added chrome pink edible sugars.’
There were 10 doughnuts in the bride’s bouquet, and seven for the bridesmaids.

While groom Steven Kirk knew exactly what his wife-to-be had up her sleeve, the rest of the guests were in for a surprise.
‘Paige and Steven are a fun couple, so no one else was really shocked by it,’ Samantha said. ‘Everyone just found it really funny.’
The only people who were really shocked by the bouquets were Paige’s grandparents, who are ‘quite traditional’, Samantha added with a laugh.

And it was Samantha’s turn to be shocked when the world went wild over the doughnut bouquets.
She believes many found Paige to be relatable, and wanted to live vicariously through her.
‘A lot of people feel they need to follow certain traditions at weddings,’ she said. ‘It’s rare that people put their own personalities in a wedding and do something fun.’
‘People wish they could do what she had done, but aren’t gutsy enough – that’s how I see it. Plus, everyone loves a doughnut!’
Now Dessert Boxes is getting flooded with requests for bridal doughnut bouquets and, although it is not part of their regular range, that may soon change.
