A man has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening blood costs weeks after receiving the controversial AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine.

The 53-year-old received the jab on May 4 and was taken to Flinders Medical Centre on Thursday with suspected thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS).

Chief Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier in a press conference on Thursday afternoon, reiterating the Pfizer vaccine is the preferred vaccine under government guidance. 

There is also a second probable case in an 87-year-old woman also from South Australia.
