Iwan Thomas reveals his dramatic two-stone weight loss

Iwan Thomas has revealed the extent of his dramatic two stone weight loss after taking in Bear Gryll’s new endurance based reality show Celebrity Island.

The former Olympian, 43, shared a shot of his notably thinner frame with Good Morning Britain viewers after almost two weeks of basic living on an otherwise uninhabited Pacific island.

Reflecting on his latest TV appearance, Iwan admitted he went more tan week without eating a full meal – and staunchly defended his decision to kill a caiman while hunting for food.

‘It was a do or die situation,’ he explained. It sounds cruel, but I felt no remorse when I killed that caiman – I know that’s horrible.

‘There was no pleasure in killing it, but we were starving. I feel bad that we took an animal’s life, but we had to eat.’

After a tense opening week Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte was the first contestant to leave the divisive new survival show.

The American actor, 25, parted ways with his campmates following eight days of basic living on an otherwise uninhabited Pacific island.

‘I can’t be a part of this anymore,’ he explained after telling the production team he wished to leave. ‘I’ve decided to leave this because of the group. ‘I feel in a survival situation a few of these people would have probably been eaten.’

Despite his criticism, many of the celebrity contestants were genuinely sorry to see RJ – who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three – depart so soon.

‘I think he’s the main man here,’ said former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas. ‘He’s the ultimate survivor as far as I’m concerned.’

Elsewhere Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies called him a wealth of knowledge, but American singer was less charitable about the departing actor.

‘Blaming the group dynamic is an interesting way to say I want to go home,’ she said.

Elsewhere Ryan and fellow contestant Iwan Thomas came under fire from fans of the show after killing a baby Caiman while foraging for food.

The pair, who had not eaten properly since entering the island camp, were filmed wrestling the reptile out of a small watering hole before killing it with a hunting knife.

No regrets: 'I feel quite proud I've killed a caiman and perhaps I should be feeling bad but to be honest I don't. I just saw it as an animal,' said Iwan afterwards

‘I feel quite proud I’ve killed a caiman and perhaps I should be feeling bad but to be honest I don’t. I just saw it as an animal,’ said Iwan as they brought the dead lizard back to camp.

Inevitably, the incident resulted in a backlash from viewers across social media.

‘I dont know how much i agree with the torture of a crocodile for an hour for a bunch of idiots,’ tweeted one.

Another added: ‘No, I had to turn over from #CelebrityIsland, I know they need to eat but I just couldn’t see them kill that crocodile.’

A third wrote: ‘that was potentially the cruelest kill i’ve seen on The Island – poor thing.’

That poor poor crocodile! This is so awful!’ added another, summing up the collective mood.

However others felt the killing was entirely justified, with one writing: ‘all these moans about killing that caiman if u dont like it dont watch it Crocodile burger is really nice u shud all try it (sic).’
