India Barford, 24, and her friends were were enjoying music at the Shambala Festival in Northampton in the early hours of August 25 when they spotted the partier.
After deciding to take a photo of the hilarious sight, India’s friends started asking for snaps with the sleeping smoker and slowly but surely strangers started to join in.
It was only when the 60-strong group started to chant ‘he’s not waking up’ that the reveller was roused from his slumber, before taking a swig of his drink.

The pictures and video have since been shared by more than 6,000 people, all determined to find the man who was not seen again over the four-day festival.
India, of East London, said: ‘When the sun starts to come up at Shambala there’s a fire pit by the lake that everyone heads to to sit and have a chat before going to bed.
‘I was on my way there with my friends when we saw him. I thought it was really funny so I needed to get a picture. We were all taking pictures of him and then everyone wanted a photo with him.
‘Everyone started to look over to see what was going on so I started beckoning people to get them involved and it just escalated from there.
‘The crowd around him just got bigger and bigger until there were about 60 people. It didn’t happen that quickly, it was about 40 minutes and the guy was just like a statue the whole time.
‘I think everyone just couldn’t believe he had slept through it all. Everyone was trying to be quite but in the photos you can just see them wetting themselves laughing.
Initially, the sleeping reveller only attracted minor attention, but the crowd grew ever larger until more than 50 people were posing with the dozing lad

‘Then suddenly the whole crowd started singing ‘he’s not waking up, he’s never going to wake up’ so I started filming. It got louder and louder and the guy did wake up. Everyone started cheering for him.
‘He didn’t look phased at all, he just had a little look around and then had another swig of his drink. I don’t think he realised he was at the centre of what was going on.
‘After he woke up, the crowd started to disperse and he just started to walk off. I ran after him to show him the photos and he said they were ‘cool’ but we never saw him again after that.
‘It makes such a great sequence of shots. You see the first one and think ‘oh that’s funny’ but nobody expects it to build up to so many people.
‘I knew I found them hilarious because I was there which is why I posted them on Facebook but I never expected so many people to find them funny and share them.’
