ENGLAND (3-4-3)

Kyle Walker – His recovery pace proved a major asset in an unfamiliar centre back role. Showed bags of experience and composure. 7
John Stones – Another colossal performance from the Manchester City defender. Has grown in stature and is having an excellent tournament. 8.5
John Stones was colossal at the back and won numerous aerial duels on Tuesday evening
Harry Maguire – Looked to be feeling the pace at the end – but that’s understandable after such a long lay-off. A hero’s performance. Booked. 8
Kieran Trippier – Southgate calls him his warrior. Absolutely accurate. Gave every part of his being down England’s right. 8
Kalvin Phillips – Grew into the game after a nervous start. His energy in central midfield was a crucial part of England’s triumph. 7
Declan Rice – Had to tread a disciplinary tightrope after picking up an early booking but manoeuvred his was way through the game superbly. Booked. 7.5
Luke Shaw – Brilliant ball to set up Sterling’s opener – and played a key role in Kane’s second. A coming of age performance. 8
Raheem Sterling – Appeared the most likely to breach Germany’s rearguard and he did just that. Golden Boot anyone? 9
Raheem Sterling keeps proving people wrong and is now in with a chance of the Golden boot
Harry Kane – Still cut an isolated figure in the lone striker’s role… but who cares. Is peaking just at the right time – just like he promised us. 7.5

Joshua Kimmich was highlighted as a danger but rarely threatened down the right flank

Toni Kroos – Has been there, seen it and done it. Moved the ball in midfield with trademark efficiency and finesse. 7
