England recorded a famous victory over Germany at Wembley to reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.
In a cagey, tight affair, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane stepped up in the second half to make the difference and send England through.

Kieran Trippier – Southgate calls him his warrior. Absolutely accurate. Gave every part of his being down England’s right. 8
Kalvin Phillips – Grew into the game after a nervous start. His energy in central midfield was a crucial part of England’s triumph. 7
Declan Rice – Had to tread a disciplinary tightrope after picking up an early booking but manoeuvred his was way through the game superbly. Booked. 7.5
Luke Shaw – Brilliant ball to set up Sterling’s opener – and played a key role in Kane’s second. A coming of age performance. 8
Raheem Sterling – Appeared the most likely to breach Germany’s rearguard and he did just that. Golden Boot anyone? 9

Manuel Neuer – Made a fairly routine save to deny Sterling in the first half but had no answer to Sterling and Kane’s finishes. 6.5
Matthias Ginter – Played a key role in harnessing Kane’s threat in the first half but found it harder to contain Sterling’s directness. 6.5
Mats Hummels – Produced a vintage display in the first half but simply had no answer to ruthless England in the second. 7
Antonio Rudiger – A typically all-action display from Germany’s masked crusader – but was given a rough time by the impressive Saka. 6.5
Joshua Kimmich – Boundless energy down the right flank but his distribution left much to be desired at times. 6.5

Kai Havertz – A couple of dangerous moments had England fearing the worst but drifted in and out of the game too much. 6.5
Thomas Muller – His miss to level will haunt him. The elder statesman of Germany’s attack struggled to lay a glove on England. 6
