Dramatic footage has emerged of airliners shaking as they come in to land at Sydney Airport in through howling winds.

The Virgin Australia and Rex jets tilted from side to side as the pilots struggled to keep the aircraft steady as wind speeds reach up to 57km/h.

As they landed, not many planes were taking off as 53 domestic flights were cancelled on Friday due to the blustery crosswinds.

The second day of bad weather stranded thousands of passengers and caused chaos across the airport with delays of more than two hours.

They were either given vouchers or put on the next flight to their destination if their flight didn’t take off.

Winds gusts of up to 50 km/h were recorded at 5am on Friday and increased later in the morning before eventually improving late in the afternoon.

International flights have yet to be affected by the conditions.

Frustrated passengers took to Twitter to vent, with one person saying the airport was ‘chockers’ after ‘finally’ making it out.

Winds of up to 72 km/h caused the closure of two runways at the airport yesterday and cancelled more than 70 flights on Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar, Tiger and Rex.
