A student doctor has revealed some of the little known signs you may be suffering from depression including leaving the television on while you sleep.
Mental health activist, Zachery Dereniowski, 28, shared the little-known signs on TikTok and Instagram recently after revealing his own battle with depression last year.
‘Things that you might not know are symptoms of depression,’ he started in the video which shows him in a dark room playing with a cigarette lighter.

‘Feeling like you are faking it because what people see is so different to how you feel,’ he said, beginning his list.
‘Struggling to sleep without the TV on because silence leaves you alone with negative, intrusive thoughts,’ he added.
‘And breaking down over things that are small because it feel as though your life is falling apart,’ he finished.
The video quickly went viral and has been seen 145k times.

‘To whoever reads this, your life matters. No one can replace you. I’m thankful you were born. I love you so much. Read that again,’ he wrote.
And people soon commented to reveal they relate to the three secret symptoms.
‘I literally need to put a random podcast on my spare phone to get to sleep,’ one young woman said.
‘I feel like you have called me out and that’s not ok,’ said another.
Another woman said she finds herself simply sleeping a lot so she can avoid thinking.
‘I just had a breakdown hearing this, I am so sad and can’t take it anymore,’ another woman said.
Zac is a student doctor from Canada who is studying in Sydney. He implores people who identify with the feelings described in his videos to seek help from a doctor.

He has previously revealed he suffered from poor mental health in 2020 and consistently strives to give advice to help others.
He also raises red flags for people who may be suffering with anxiety.
He recently revealed people may be living with the mental health condition if they constantly have very high expectations of themselves.
‘Mediocre is never enough,’ he explained.
He said appearing successful and calm on the outside in another red flag – especially if you feel like other people ‘don’t get it’.
‘You have difficulty saying no and asking for help because you fear looking weak,’ he said.
‘Overthinking is your best friend because you need to make the right decision.’
