Emmanuel Petit has urged his former club Chelsea to bite the bullet and sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
Norwegian striker Haaland is one of the hottest properties in Europe after scoring 41 goals in 41 appearances last campaign for the Bundesliga side.
And Petit told Paddy Power that given the Blues’ struggles with finding an out-and-out striker that they should just make a deal happen for the 20-year-old.
Emmanuel Petit has urged Chelsea to go all out to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland
He said: ‘I’ll make it simple. Olivier Giroud is on his way out of Chelsea, Tammy Abraham is probably leaving on loan, and Timo Werner is still struggling to score goals consistently and Kai Havertz is not a striker.
‘Chelsea need a new striker and someone who scores lots of goals. Erling Haaland is the answer. He’s strong, powerful and young with a bright future in front of him.
‘Haaland’s value is already very high, and connections with Tuchel increase his chance of joining Chelsea.
Ex-Chelsea midfielder Petit told the Blues Haaland would be ‘the answer’ to their problems
‘Offensively, he could become the finisher that Chelsea really need. I can imagine his relationship with Mount, Havertz, Pulisic and Ziyech making him score lots of goals at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea need a top striker, it’s as simple as that.’
Chelsea won the Champions League last season, but big-money signings Werner and Havertz are not traditional No 9s and Thomas Tuchel is keen to add to his squad from a position of strength.
Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has also been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge, but Petit reckons that due to Haaland’s age and potential to improve, he would be the best option for Tuchel’s men.
