Thieves crash stolen motorbike into lamppost in Swindon

These calamitous thieves were unwittingly stopped in their tracks when they crashed into a lamppost during their speedy getaway.

The two young men, who are still being sought by police, were caught on CCTV riding the stolen bike through Swindon before their plot to escape went awry.

The footage shows the pair losing control of the vehicle and falling off it onto the grass verge.

The passenger manages to get back up quickly, while the driver is seen rolling further away from the road clutching his stomach.

As comical as the footage may be, Wiltshire Police are still serious about finding the suspects, who dumped the bike two miles away

But an hour later, the passenger was caught returning to the scene in the Park South area of Swindon and taking the bike with him.

Police believe it was originally stolen from a home in Tunnicliffe Close overnight between September 5 and 6. It was later found in a garage two miles away.

Wiltshire Police have released the amusing footage in a bid to find the suspects.

It is not clear what happened to the driver, who they describe as a white male between 5ft 7in and 5ft 9in tall, wearing a grey padded vest with a black top underneath, navy tracksuit bottoms with stripes down the sides, white trainers and a white and orange helmet.

The passenger is white, of a similar height to the driver, wearing a black hooded top with white stripes on the sleeves, navy blue jeans and black trainers.
