Team GB reach women’s cycling team pursuit final by smashing the world record against the USA… but it only stands for TEN MINUTES as Germany answer back to set up a superb gold medal encounter
Britain’s women’s team pursuit squad broke the world record to reach the gold medal round as they clocked a time of 4:06.748 to beat the United States.
However, they almost ruined their own celebrations as Katie Archibald rode into the back of Neah Evans as the two riders slowed down, crashing to the floor, though both were quickly back up and downplayed the incident afterwards.
Evans had come into the line-up in place of Elinor Barker, who rode in qualifying.

However, the celebrations were almost spoiled after Katie Archibald rode into the back of Neah Evans following their semi-final victory over USA – but both riders got quickly back up
Laura Kenny and Josie Knight were the others who rode on Tuesday.
But Britain’s record lasted less than 10 minutes as Germany – who had broken it once already in qualifying – went faster still in their own semi-final.
Franziska Brausse, Lisa Brennauer, Lisa Klein and Mieke Kroeger stopped the clock at 4:06.166 to comfortably beat Italy and advance to the final.
