Liane Moriarty admits nerves over Big Little Lies adaption

Liane Moriarty shot to global fame with the release of her 2014 book, Big Little Lies.

But the Australian author has now admitted that she was nervous about signing the rights to the book over to HBO to turn it into a TV series.

However, the 50-year-old tells Daily Telegraph that her nerves were quickly quelled due to the level of talent working on the series.

‘I was nervous,’ she told the publication. ‘But I knew I was handing it over to such talented people. 

She then went on to praise stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman as ‘incredible.’  

Nicole is heading into this year’s Emmy Awards as the favourite to win the Outstanding Lead Actress award.

The 50-year-old is in line to win the award for her acclaimed role as abused wife Celeste Wright in the seven-part miniseries Big Little Lies, The Daily Telegraph reported. 

The drama – which was co-executive produced by Nicole – has been nominated for a further 13 awards including Outstanding Limited Series.

Nicole said creating the show was an intense experience, and that she finds it ‘painful’ to watch.

‘It’s deeply uncomfortable and it is complicated, which is what I wanted to make,’ she said to the newspaper.

‘The role entered my psyche in a way that I didn’t want it to, but it just did. 

‘I was lucky that I have Keith (Urban), who I could go home to and who is very solid.’

She has co-star Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon, Carrie Coon and Felicity Huffman as competition for the award.

Nicole paid tribute to Reese, who she lived next to for five and a half months while the pair were shooting the series.

The actress said the pair would often share dinners and stories together, and that ‘so much’ of their friendship shows on screen.
