The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will be held without spectators due to rising coronavirus cases in Japan, organisers have confirmed.
All events at the Paralympics, which kicks off on August 23, will be held behind closed doors – as was the case with the Olympic Games.
Japan’s capital has been under a state of emergency since July 12 as the deadly virus continues to wreak havoc across the country.
On Friday (August 13), Tokyo reported a record 5,773 new infections, with Sunday’s figure 4,295.
