Kellyanne Conway, the president’s counselor, says she thought last night’s Emmys were an ‘insult’ to the president and that it was a mistake for the awards show and its winners to insist on ‘alienating at least 63 million Americans.’
The Donald Trump adviser is gleeful, though, that Saturday Night Live actress Kate McKinnon won an award.
‘I am so happy Kate McKinnon was able to get her Emmy. I know she thanked Hillary Clinton, but it had to be much more fun to play me,’ Conway said.

McKinnon’s portrayals of both Clinton and Conway have been praised, although a one sketch that cast the Trump aide as a stalker of CNN’s Jake Tapper ruffled feathers.
She, Trump impressionist Alec Baldwin and Sean Spicer impersonator Melissa McCarthy all won Emmys this week for their political humor.
Spicer, the former White House press secretary, made a surprise appearance at the awards show on Sunday evening, declaring, ‘This will be the largest audience to witness the Emmys, period — both in person and around the world.’
The shock delivery, as Spicer pushed a podium like the one he used to stand behind at the White House, courted controversy, as the former Trump aide acknowledged that his false assertion that the president had the largest inauguration viewership had made him a national laughingstock.
‘I’m very happy my former White House colleague Sean Spicer is a man of good humor. And he has been quoted recently saying life outside is much more relaxed, so I’m very happy for him. This is something that a lot of folks in Hollywood sometimes lack, which is introspection and humor,’ she said.
Spicer has come around to McCarthy’s impressions of him as Conway has taken to McKinnon’s satirical sketches about her. The president hasn’t had quite the same reaction to Baldwin’s take on his candidacy and now his presidency.
Asked if the the president would call Baldwin today to congratulate him for winning an Emmy?
Conway said, ‘Hmmm – let me predict the future: No.
She interjected, curtly, ‘And he probably barely noticed. He is addressing the United Nations General Assembly today. There are a lot of things on the President of the United States’ docket. North Korea, Iran, Syria, healthcare reform, the border wall. He is a busy guy.’
Baldwin had remarked last night as he won the award that Trump finally got the Emmy he so richly desired, mocking the president’s griping that his reality TV show, The Apprentice, was repeatedly shut out.
