Robert Lewandowski has put Europe’s top clubs on alert by telling Bayern Munich he wants to leave this summer — but the German champions want £110million for their star striker.

Lewandowski, who turns 33 on Saturday, is ready to leave Bayern in pursuit of a new challenge and remains hopeful of securing a move before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

With his fitness levels and physical condition renowned, Lewandowski is confident he still has at least three or four years left at the highest level.

Bayern have not offered the Pole an extension on his contract, which has two years left to run, and it is believed they are lining up a move for Erling Haaland next summer as a replacement for their No 9.

Lewandowski was understood to be Thomas Tuchel’s leading striker target this summer, but Chelsea considered the price tag too high for his age and preferred to spend big on a younger striker.

They confirmed the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, 28, last week for a club record £98m after 21-year-old Borussia Dortmund star Haaland proved to be out of reach.

The prospect of Lewandowski leaving Bayern after seven years adds a potential new dynamic to the striker market this window, with his agent Pini Zahavi tasked with trying to find a solution.

As Sportsmail revealed last month, Manchester City have been monitoring developments with Lewandowski.

They are trying to prise Harry Kane away from Tottenham, but their latest offer of £125m was well below chairman Daniel Levy’s valuation.

Real Madrid have been raising funds to launch a move for Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain but they have also been linked with Lewandowski.

Should Mbappe, 22, leave PSG, it would create another potential opening for Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has scored a staggering 297 goals in 331 games for Bayern, with his 278 Bundesliga goals —including those from his spell at Dortmund — making him the league’s second-highest scorer of all-time behind the late Gerd Muller.

He scored 41 league goals last season to break Muller’s previous best tally of 40.
