Lorde says her new album Solar Power is ‘a celebration of the natural world’ as she reveals Australia is ‘one of her favourite places to play’
Lorde has shared details of her new album Solar Power and her upcoming Australian tour, scheduled to take place next year.
The New Zealand singer, 24, spoke to Sunrise showbusiness correspondent Steve Hargrave via Zoom on Friday.
Solar Power is Lorde’s third album after Melodrama (2017) and Pure Heroine (2013).

Steve noted Lorde had previously described Solar Power as a ‘sun-worship album’.
‘I did indeed,’ she agreed. ‘This is very much a celebration of the natural world, and I feel like I had a lot of epiphanies both at sunrise and sunset.’
The interviewer also couldn’t help but remark that TV appearances were rare for the Kiwi superstar, who is known to ‘shun the spotlight’ when releasing albums.

Lorde said she felt differently about publicising her third album, because it’s such an optimistic release.
‘So much of the album is so joyful and carefree and celebratory, but there’s also those sides to it that are more contemplative, me asking these hippy questions on myself and our world,’ she said.
The conversation then turned to Lorde’s influences on Solar Power, including Robbie Williams, S Club 7 and Natalie Imbruglia.
The songstress said she’d listened to Natalie’s 1997 hit single Torn ‘over and over again’ while writing Solar Power.

She said the track had a ‘great balance’ of sounding ‘natural and organic’ while also being a ‘massive pop song’.
Lorde then spoke about her upcoming Australian tour, scheduled for next year.
She said Australia was one of her ‘favourite places to play’ and she was looking forward to fans being able to go to concerts again once Covid lockdown ends.
